Craft Lace - Rex Lace page

Zipper Pulls

Zipper Pulls Shown at the left is work done with craft lace. These pieces are called "zipper pulls". The idea is to hook the free end through the piece that you use to open and close a zipper using a Lark's Head knot to attach to the zipper. These will form an extention and make it easier to pull open a zipper.

Two colors can be used on the Zipper Pull but it can also be made using just one color. Popular colors are school colors, pieces made out of a multi-colored Rex Lace that is Red - White - Blue, and "Barbie" colors for girls, pink and light blue.

For Boy Scouts, age range is Tiger, Wolf, and Bear. But almost everyone enjoys a multi-colored zipper pull.

Gimps or Boondoggles

Boondogoles
Shown at the left is more work done with craft lace. These pieces are called "Gimps" or "Boondoggles". Made using a Crown Knot, the piece can be knotted so that it appears to be square, or it can be knotted in a spiral pattern. Doing both kinds of knotting allows the maker to come up with an almost endless type of patterns. It is even possible to pass one piece through another. That's how the Cross was made on the upper left portion of the picture.

On the right hand side of the picture is another piece made using a simple stitch. Called the "zipper stitch" (Not to be confused with the Zipper Pull as above.) it can have up to three colors.

Two colors can be used but it can also be made using just one color. Popular colors are school colors, pieces made out of a multi-colored Rex Lace that is Red - White - Blue, and "Barbie" colors for girls, pink and light blue.

For Boy Scouts, age range is Bear, Webelos, and Boy Scouts.

Gimps or Boondoggles - Multi-Wide

Multi wide Gimps
Shown at the left is more work done with craft lace. These pieces are called "Gimps" or "Boondoggles" and are made two and three times wider than the ones shown above.

Once again, these are made using a Crown Knot, the piece can be knotted so that it appears to be square, or it can be knotted in a spiral pattern. Doing both kinds of knotting allows the maker to come up with an almost endless type of patterns. It is even possible to add beads to come up with more pleasing patterns.
